Reduced functional connectivity in the prefrontal cortex of elderly catatonia patients: A longitudinal study using functional near-infrared spectroscopy

چکیده
Catatonia is a syndrome that manifests in patients with mental disorders and general medical conditions. However, functional changes to the brain cause catatonia remain unknown. In present study, we used near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) assess spontaneous hemodynamic activities at times of onset resolution catatonic symptoms catatonia. We 22-channel 49-channel fNIRS examine prefrontal cortex (PFC), both frontal parietal cortices, respectively. A total ten who were diagnosed included study. Resting state measurements taken for five minutes time symptoms. Analyses performed region motor within parietal-frontal brain. Functional connectivity between cerebral hemispheres was evaluated systematically based on oscillation ?[HbO2]. PFC, resting (RSFC) significantly lower than eyes-closed non-catatonic (p = 0.047). The study demonstrated RSFC measured using fNIRS, may be an objective indicator change

متن کاملPrefrontal cortex hemodynamics and age: a pilot study using functional near infrared spectroscopy in children
Cerebral hemodynamics reflect cognitive processes and underlying physiological processes, both of which are captured by functional near infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). Here, we introduce a novel parameter of Oxygenation Variability directly obtained from fNIRS data -the OV Index-and we demonstrate its use in children. fNIRS data were collected from 17 children (ages 4-8 years), while they perfor...
متن کاملOptical Imaging of the Motor Cortex in the Brain in Order to Determine the Direction of the Hand Movements Using Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS)
Introduction: In recent years, optical imaging has attracted a lot of attention from scholars as a non- aggressive, efficient method for evaluating the activities of the motor cortex in the brain. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS (is a tool showing the hemodynamic changes in a cortical area of the brain according to optical principles. The present study has been de...
متن کاملEffects of Mandibular Retrusive Deviation on Prefrontal Cortex Activation: A Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Study
The objective of this study was to evaluate occlusal condition by assessing brain activity in the prefrontal cortex, which is associated with emotion. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) was used to detect changes in cerebral blood flow in the prefrontal cortex of 12 healthy volunteers. The malocclusion model was a custom-made splint that forced the mandible into retrusion. A splint w...
متن کاملPrefrontal cortex activation during story encoding/retrieval: a multi-channel functional near-infrared spectroscopy study
Encoding, storage and retrieval constitute three fundamental stages in information processing and memory. They allow for the creation of new memory traces, the maintenance and the consolidation of these traces over time, and the access and recover of the stored information from short or long-term memory. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) is a non-invasive neuroimaging technique that...
